Browning buckmark camper 22Lr

The Browning Buckmark was the pistol I selected after about a week of research on the best target shooter with the most precision for it's price. I made the purchase in April 2018.

I bought it off a dealer on Gunbroker.com in April 2018 for $418

The factory sights on the gun are blacked out and pretty good actually, but for that extra precision I ended up getting a red dot for it.  I put a Trijicon MRO using a Kinetic sidelok mount that came in a package together from Opticsplanet for ($448).

The picatinny rail goes almost the full length of the barrel and looks nice. I love the 7 inch barrel and the accuracy that comes with a pistol of that length. It comes with two mags.

After shooting it for about a month. Don from Red Dot in Layton asked if I had performed the trigger spring flip yet. I hadn’t heard about it. Don has the same gun and said that if I switched the trigger spring that was already in there it would drop the trigger pull weight in half. I did a search on you tube and found this: https://youtu.be/P-wNxp-vIRU  If you do this be VERY careful when you pull out the recoil spring assembly.  The little tiny plastic cap that keeps everything in place can come over under the pressure and it flew to who-knows-where and I ended up spending like $9 to get a replacement.

The video goes through how to flip the spring which is a mod that is free. That should make Cathi happy. It takes the trigger pull down to I'd guess around 2 pounds.  It's very light. In some rare situations, I'll have a an incidental double tap if I'm not careful.


I also bought a little charging ring for the back of the slide. I thought it wouldn’t be a big deal, but I love it. Makes the slide release so much faster during a quick reload!

Update 10 months later:

After about 10 months of shooting with the charging ring, I took it off and for some reason, I have much fewer stovepipes and failed ejections.  So I'm leaving it off.

I'm now using this firearm in competition at the SL County Corporate Games. The format is to shoot a NRA B-16 target with 10 rounds at 10 yards, then another 10 rounds at 15 yards, and then the final 10 rounds at 25 yards.  I ended up buying another membership at red dot so I can practice every day after work on the way home.  If I limit it to 1-2 sessions it only takes 60 x 22 cartridges, and about 20 minutes max. So it's not a big deal, and I don't have to pay for range time.  I figure with 5 weeks of shooting I've already had the membership pay for itself in what it would have cost me paying every visit.

The scoring on the Corporate games is 300 points total (100 per distance: 10 shots of a 10 scored bullseye). My best so far is a 288.  Out of a couple dozen sessions I'm averaging a 274.  Which according to the results of 2017's B division, would bring a gold medal. 

A while back I called the Browning Factory outlet in Morgan asking if they had magazines for the buckmark and the lady on the phone snobbishly said, we don't sell magazines or guns in the factory store.  What the!?  You're a browning factory outlet and all you sell is shirts, hats and overpriced socks?  Lame.  So I ended up buying two more magazines for $22 a piece from Cheaper than dirt website.

With the red dot being so high up on the back of the barrel, I carry it in my humongous Smith and Wesson bag that came with my S&W 629 Hunter Revolver in 44 Magnum. It's the perfect size for this pistol.

It kind of looks like a blaster off of Star Wars.  No wonder Han Solo preferred a blaster over a light saber.  With the negligible recoil, it sure makes for an easy shooting gun.
